Tamsin Brown 3rd March 2011

Can't believe our first fundraising event is over!! After months of planning and excitement, and very hard work by Cathy, we all went to Barcelona for the weekend for the marathon. On Sunday 30th January, we all assembled at the marathon start point with the other 7,000 runners! The atmosphere was electric, and despite all the runners being given a luminous green top to wear, Cathy stood out in her bright pink personalised t-shirt with the picture of Mum on the front, the logos of the 2 charities, and "In Memory of Dorinda Brown, Barcelona 2011" on the back. It was quite emotional as I waved her off as she started off on the journey that would take her 13 miles arouind the streets of Barcelona. Jock and I tried to catch up with them as they moved round the figure of 8 course, but we couldnt keep up with them, the only action we saw was the medical vans that trailed the runners at the back! Eventually we went back to the finish and waited there for Cathy, and she crossed the line in a time of 2 hours 11 minutes!! She got a medal for her efforts, and we all went home for a sleep - after all the emotion I felt I'd taken part! We couldnt believe it when we got home and collected and counted the money. £4,030 which meant we could donate £2,015 to Ovarian Cancer Action and £2,015 to Cancer Research NI, which Mum had done some fundraising for. Thanks so much to everyone, we really, really appreciate your generousity, and we are genuinely touched by the support we received.
